Gender Discrimination!

Why is it that women are still being faced with discrimination throughout the business community? The discrimination ranges from excluding women from major decisions all the way to sexual harassment. In the United States we have the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission, which deals with gender discrimination issues, but with the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission, women are still being discriminated against. I understand that the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commissions cannot oversee every little bit of discrimination, but women never seemed to be able to catch a break especially in the business community.

We hear that men and women are equal, but realistically men in our business world seem to always have the upper hand. They are usually bettered paid and are able to move up in positions much easier. Women put in as much effort as men, have the same qualifications and still women struggle to move up the business latter. We have seen some women like Sarah Palin and Meg Whitman, to name a few, who have been able to succeed in the business community. But why is that we don’t have more women succeeding? We are told that we can accomplish anything if we put our mind to it has kids. Women don’t seem to be able to accomplish their dream of moving up in their business or owning their own business.

There have been plenty of times where there is a man and women who go for the same job opportunity, have the same qualifications, but the man gets hired because the manager prefers to work with a man. I have also heard that men over women usually get promotions because bosses feel women cannot handle the stress and are to emotional when it comes to making big decisions. I disagree with this completely based of experiences from my mom. She is always under so much more stress than my dad. My mom is the one worrying about how are the kids getting home, what are we going to make for dinner and worrying about her job. If anything I find that men cannot multitask so they usually put all their effort into one thing like their job as women are putting all their effort into multiply things like job and kids.

Women have come a long way, but still are facing discrimination in the business community.

    Hi Megan,
Some of what you say reminds me of a concept called “The Double Burden.” You may want to look into it as a topic for a future post.
